Santam only looks after themselves and not their clients

Roughly a week and half ago we registered a claim that we thought had to do with lightning striking the house and since then it has been one big struggle with Santam.

I have been a client of Santam for a while and after this claim I'm really wondering why. Digicall came to fetch the broken items, 2 rooters, 2 TV boxes, TV itself and a fishtank pump.

Because the entire house streams and works with the WiFi I asked the appointed assessor what I could do while I'm waiting for the claim to be sorted. She advised me via the phone that as long as I bought exactly the same products and the claim was infact a valid claim then it would not be a problem to get the money back.

There are 2 major problems in this case. I went to replace firstly the TP Link AX 1500 rooter. I took the rooter to Makro and asked the salesperson to please give me the exact same one. He the took one off the rack and off I went, paying R 2399. The TV has a similar problem, I went to a shop they told me to measure the TV from the left bottom corner to the top right hand corner to get the correct size. After doing so they told me it's a 42inch TV and gave me a price.

Now for the problems. On the assessors report it stated that Digicall came to the conclusion that the damage was infact caused by powersurge and not lightning witch is ok. In her report she lists the TP Link Rooter to cost R 1 399. R1000 less than what I paid. Also on her report she listed a 39inch Sinotec TV for a price of R 2 699. This has 2 problems. First of all it's the wrong size according to me and secondly this price was found as a special on this specific TV.

Adding to this already terrible experience was the fact that the Santam assessor that came to our house made me feel uncomfortable in my own house acting as if she is doing us a huge favour, almost as if we have to be very thankful for every step she takes on our property.

I have reported this issue more than a week ago and nobody at Santam even made a effort to attend to this problem.
