Santam not honouring promises
Santam ran a promo where if they could not beat your current insurance premium, they offered a R500 Takealot voucher. On Sat 16 August I then placed a callback request, and an agent called Joshua Butler called me within 2 minutes and we did the quote. Unfortunately Santam could not beat my quote (they were actually more than double what I currently pay for comprehensive car insurance at Budget), and as such I was asked to send in my current schedule for validation, and was told it won't take more than 5 days. On 23 August I then followed up via email, no response, then on 1 Sept I called into their call centre, and spoke to a lady (cannot remember her name) who said it is still in validation, but she will follow up with Joshua and his manager, to which I am still waiting on a response. Then I followed up again via email on 5 September, and lo and behold, no response...
Now, my gripe is that there is a precedent set by making a claim that if they can't beat, they will give a voucher, and then they don't follow through, which is a false claim, because 5 working days has now turned into almost a month. Please note that it isn't about the voucher, but about the principle of the matter of not putting your money where your mouth is. Now because of this, if Santam cannot even honour a promo, then how will they actually honour their own terms in a policy?
Seriously, if you run a promo, at least try and honour it or if you don't want to honour, BS your way out of it through communication...
