Santam Legal Insurance not much better than the rest

<p>I signed up for Santam Legal Inurance several months ago, thinking that having some sort of legal cover would stand me in good stead in the future. Four or five months later exactly such a situation arose where legal assistance would be key in resolving it. I phoned up Santam's legal insurance arm in hopes of getting the right advice and speedy assistance.</p> <p>The first thing that bothered me was that I ended talking to a lady from some other company to do with legal matters, which I can only assume is a company sub-contracted to Santam to provide legal advice and assist with all the rest of the legal stuff. This lady listened to me all of 2 minutes and was not interested at all in finding a speedy resolution and she was definitely not interested in my problem or finding out all the nitty gritty details of it so that she could resolve it. My problem has been dragging on vir almost a year without resolution, despite repeated written, telephonic and other requests to the other party to resolve the issue, with only empty promises as recourse.</p> <p>It seems Santam Legal falls into the same category as the rest of the so-called legal insurance companies in SA, offering very little in terms of value for money. The legal representative offered to do exactly what I've been trying to do the last year or so to resolve my problem, and at that point I felt, oh boy, this situation is SO not going to be resolved since no concrete legal action is being taken by Santam Legal. Isn't that the whole point of having legal cover, to have a knowledgeable and supposedly reputable company take over the matter when you've exhausted all other avenues of potential resolution? Instead you receive unsympathethic, half-hearted, disinterested service from a company that is supposed to be one of SA's best insurance institutions. I didn't even receive follow-up contact to find out whether the situation had in fact been resolved or not, which of course it hasn't. Shocking service.</p> <p>I signed up with Santam Legal hoping that it would be a case of picking up the phone, paying whatever excess is applicable and having them take over the reigns until further notice. Not so. It seems to be Santam Legal is just another company offering legal cover and not delivering. And here I thought that avoiding the other companies out there and signing up instead with someone reputable would make all the difference in the world. It doesn't, trust me. You've been warned!</p>
