SANTAM INSURANCE DRAGGING THEIR HEELS - CLAIM NR ***

I had a fire (electrical, caused by the stove) at the unit i rent. On 3 May 2017 (the day of the fire) i advised my insurance (Budget) and the owner of the unit (i rent) advised his insurance (Santam). My insurance came out within 48 hours and we started the cleaning process. I was on the case of the owner to get his insurance done - i was told that they were advised and they are now waiting for the assessor to do his/her thing. PROBLEM with this is that only last week (two weeks after the fact) was the first time i EVER heard from Santam (I must say that the assesor Claudette was very efficient and just as shocked as me that this was taking so long)

I am A SINGLE MOTHER AND NO WHERE TO LIVE. We have no family in Cape Town and yes even if we are staying with friends i feel that is unacceptable since we use their electicity, eat their food etc. I asked the broker of the owner about my living arrangements (and excess payment since the fire was not my fault) and was told they would let me know .... but guess what ..... its been three weeks TODAY and no one called me regarding this. I was called by the broker today to say the assessor is busy with her report and will let me know what is going on BUT MAN HOW MUCH LONGER MUST I WAIT.

WE DONT HAVE A HOME!!!

I want to know what they are going to do about my living arrangements

I want to know when they are going to start repairs to my unit.

I want to know what their plans are regarding MY OWN Excess i have to pay to Budget and the approx R55 000 i am losing to the salvage company for items cleaned/salvaged that i am losing (please note that this is not part of my pay out but money paid for services). Dont think its fair that MY insurance pays for something that was NOT MY FAULT.

If i dont have an answer to this complaint within the next 2 hours i will no alternative but to take this further and to the FSB if i have to.

It is unacceptable that a person must be treated like this when the insurance clearly is dragging.

I dont know if it is the broker or the insurance that is at fault but i feel that Santam needs to do what is required of them and help asap.

Funny thing is MY INSURANCE (for interior damages) is settled already .... LAST WEEK. But i cannot do anything until i have a home.
