SANTAM HOUSEHOLD INSURANCE DISSAPOINTMENT
I recently had a problem with my autodryer. The problem was a switch and it cost R750 to repair, as quoted by the repairer.
The Santam assessor that managed the claim informed me that it was an electrical fault and therefore they are going to replace the autodryer. The same make cost R4000 plus, new. I then need to pay the R2500 excess which they will deduct from the R4000 plus.... which will leave me with R1000 something. That amount they will deposit into my account to purchase a new one. They will then fetch the autodryer because now it becomes Santam property.
Naturally I declined the offer.
Now.... what I CANNOT understand is that Santam was willing to pay me more than R1000 instead of just fix my autodryer for just R750.00. All it needed was a switch. I was informed that the excess cost "I had to pay" was more than the repair cost hence they decline fixing it. The truth is, I was NOT going to pay the excess ... Santam was deducting it from the total cost of the new tumbledryer... and then willing to pay me R1000 plus. More than the R750 it was going to cost to repair.
I fixed the autodryer and paid the R750.00 myself. It is back to its original working order.
Now you tell me..... I pay my household insurance monthly and depend on my insurance company to assist with household challenges. What happenned here in this case?
I still cannot understand the logic. Santam Household insurance has really been very disappointing !
