Santam Forced Me to Accept a Downgraded Vehicle – Not What I Paid For”

Dear Sir/Madam,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint against Santam Insurance regarding poor service, failure to honour my policy benefits, and lack of communication.

My details are as follows:

Full name: Angela Nozuko Bullet

Claim number: ***

Contact number: ***

Email address: ***

I have an active insurance policy with Santam which includes a courtesy / replacement vehicle benefit. I was advised that I am entitled to a specific vehicle class. However, the appointed service provider (Avis) has indicated that they do not have the vehicle class I am booked for and can only offer a downgraded automatic hatchback, which does not align with what I am paying for under my policy.

Despite this, Santam has insisted on using this service provider and has not offered a suitable alternative provider or an equivalent vehicle. I was also sold a higher vehicle option during the sales process and have requested access to the recorded sales conversation to verify what was agreed to, but this has not been provided.

What has caused further distress is that:

My calls are now going unanswered My emails are being ignored I am unable to reach the consultant handling my matter I am left without guidance or resolution

This situation has left me extremely frustrated and distressed. I feel that I am being unfairly treated and pressured to accept a downgrade that I did not agree to and which is not in line with my understanding of my policy benefits.

I respectfully request the Ombudsman’s assistance in reviewing this matter and guiding Santam to:

Honour the vehicle class or equivalent benefit I am entitled to, and/or Provide a suitable alternative service provider, and Address the lack of communication and poor service I have experienced

I am willing to provide any additional documentation or correspondence required to support my complaint.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I sincerely hope for your intervention, as I no longer know how else to resolve this matter.

Kind regards,

Angela Nozuko Bullet

I sincerely hope you will as I can name several people from Santam who promised to call me back earlier today and have not whilst I remain stranded as I have to drop my car at the panel shop by 16:30,

Dear Ms Haupt,

Thank you for your acknowledgment and for confirming that my complaint has been assigned a case reference.

While I note the 3-working-day investigation period, I must urgently raise that I am currently without any replacement vehicle and am effectively stranded. This situation is causing significant distress, as I have a school-going child who needs daily transport, and the lack of mobility is directly affecting our ability to function normally.

Given the urgency and the impact on a minor, I respectfully request immediate interim assistance while the investigation is underway, whether by:

  • Providing a replacement vehicle in line with my policy benefits, or
  • Authorising an alternative service provider as a temporary solution
Waiting several days without transport is not practical or reasonable under the circumstances. I appreciate that the matter is under investigation, but I kindly ask that this urgent mobility issue be addressed as a priority, pending the final outcome. I look forward to your prompt response.
