Santam Employee Caused Accident and Refuses Accountability
On Friday evening, I was involved in a serious accident caused by a Santam employee.
I had right of way, as the traffic lights were green in my direction. The other driver drove through a red light, colliding with my vehicle and causing it to overturn. Fortunately, no severe injuries occurred, but my vehicle was badly damaged. At the scene, I attempted to exchange details with the driver. He refused to provide them. Instead, he initially claimed to be insured with Discovery Insurance. After I contacted Discovery, I was informed that he was not a client. He admitted to being insured with Santam today. I then contacted Santam directly. I was informed that without the claim number I cannot be assisted as I am not the policyholder. When I called him for a claim number, he refused, stating that Santam advised him not to communicate with me. This has left me in a position where I cannot open a third-party claim.
My Concerns 1. The driver is a Santam employee and appears to be using his position to avoid accountability. 2. I am being denied a fair claims process simply because I am not the policyholder, even though I am the innocent third party. 3. I am left without assistance, while my vehicle has been severely damaged.
Desired Outcome
Santam must urgently intervene and ensure that my third-party claim is processed fairly. The policyholder/employee must provide the necessary claim number or Santam should assist me directly as the affected third party. I expect accountability from Santam regarding the conduct of their employee, who misled me at the scene and has since refused to cooperate.

Unfortunately we can only assist you if our insured had submitted a claim under his policy -- we cannot assist unless a claim had been registered -- our legal team requires that as that will allow them to proceed and engage with you further.
Without a claim number we therefore cannot assist herein.
