November 2019 I had hail damage to my tiled roof, gutters, windows and awning roof. I put in a claim and an assessor eventually had a look and put in his review (that took another 3 weeks) and allegedly told Santam that the HAIL (please note HAIL) damage was due to lack of maintenance and no waterproofing. They only paid out for the ceiling damage and windows to be fixed. I repaired the windows but fought with them for months to get the roof and gutters included in the payout. They insisted that I was wrong and that my tiled roof was indeed slate and because I had not painted it that I was not going to get paid out. Last year I decided to log my complaint with the ombudsman and after a few months they ruled in my favour and forced Santam to pay me out. The sad story is that the assessor under quoted for the repairs and I had to dig into my savings to complete the repair. Needless to say that my ceilings are still damaged.
