SANTAM: Disappointment, Good and Proper.

What an utter disappointment. I received an estimate for accident repair to my vehicle, which showed 14 replacement parts, including the tow bar that had minor damage. When I requested a justification for the tow bar replacement, I got no answer, apart from a new estimate with replacement parts reduced to 3 items and a cost reduction of > R25 000.00 (>50% reduction).

After three months of going back and forth with Santam, where they even ignore appointments set up by themselves to discuss the matter, I am fed up beyond reason. I get treated like a nuisance client that asks too many questions.

They go on to insult my intelligence by trying to explain to me how an "estimate" works. For example, I am apparently, ******** to request justification for the R960 "estimate" price tag on a tailgate sticker that I can get in retail for 1/10th the price. I don't have to worry about the R960 price tag on a sticker, it is an estimate.

How many cases are there where estimates with 10+ unnecessary replacement parts are approved without question, and who stands to benefit from it? I know the loyal client foots the bill regarding premiums and premium increases.

I have been entrusting all my short-term insurance needs with Santam for more than ten years, expecting much more from the "insurer of choice". Time to check OUT the competition; maybe go NAKED, it will be better for my BUDGET?
