Santam declined our claim

In February this year our domestic helper whom we trusted immensely had confessed to theft in respect to *****ing sentimental jewellery from my wife and I, some of which included our wedding rings. We had opened up a case with SAPS and thereafter proceeded to submit the application form under our household contents with Santam. After numerous conversations and queries regarding our claim, it was eventually declined after waiting for almost 3 months. The reason for our claim be repudiated was due to “no forced entry”. I find this to be complete and utter poor administration, when we had clearly indicated on our claim form, together with our case file number, that our domestic was the accused. She had full access to our home and we had never indicated forced entry. We had provided a current value of items from Damjee jewellers. Santam had requested we provide original receipts for jewellery, however we did not have this information and we were unable to request receipts from Damjee’s as the branch who kept our records has since closed down. Considering our emotional turmoil from the situation, namely the loss of sentimental items, lack of trust from a “valuable” employee, to have Santam reject my claim is not appreciated.

I have been a good client who maintained consistency with my insurance premiums since inception. This level of service is very unprofessional and poor. Not only did the insurers look and my case incorrectly but they led me to wait in the hopes for admittance for months only to reject. I have been very co-operative during the processing of my claim and I am not happy about the feedback provided. Santam prides in taking care of their clients, however I find that they show a lack of compassion to honest, hardworking individuals on a legitimate claim.
