SANTAM CLAIM
Good Day
During the heavy rains we experienced in December 2022 we encountered a problem with our drive way gate not opening as it should and was tripping the electrical earth leakage on the main DB board, After some investigation we could not figure out where the actual problem was ( whether it was the gate itself or the electrical side ) so we contacted our broker ( KAYSER BAIRD BROKERS ) who sent out a technician to check the gate motor which he found that the problem was with the electrical supply to the gate motor meaning there was some damage to the cables, We thereafter informed Santam about this and they requested us to get an electrician to assess the damage which we did after a while. The electrician identified the problem as damage to the cable due to heavy rains we experienced. After repudiating the claim SANTAM wants us to prove that the damage is due to the rains we had, this would mean us digging up the entire tarred surface driveway spanning some 60 meters in length. There was never a problem with the cable and and I don't see how it can be damaged through WEAR & TEAR as this cable is inserted into a conduit for the full length and there is NO JOINTS in the cable so where SANTAMs assessor who has never been out on site to assess this damage gets the opinion that the cable is due to WEAR & TEAR and decides to repudiate the claim. If SANTAM sees a minuscular claim such as this being a problem to settle I shudder to think what will happen if my entire house is washed away during a storm. SANTAM needs to come to the party and sort this issue out. Bear in mind the cost of the electrician to sort this out is less than R5000.
