Re: REVIEW OF SANTAM INSURANCE

My mother suffered a loss, and was assisted by her Insurance Company, being Santam.

Santam appointed an Assesor by name of Ms C. Holliday, and while said Ms Holliday was extremely competent, helpful and even showed genuine empathy with my Mother's advanced Alzheimers Dementia, I was also impressed overall with Santam's customer service and specifically with said Ms Holliday.

HOWEVER, there is a dark and sinister side to Santam when they settle a claim. And this is most definitely not said Ms Holliday's fault, but rather a well-designed business strategy by Santam itself. They make use of what is known as a Santam Visa Electron card where they pay/load the Settlement Amount to. Such Visa Electron card was discontinued officially during 2024 by Visa.

The very design of such Santam Card provides Santam with a tool to manipulate the Settlement in different ways, even after Settlement. One is forced to use said Santam Card only with specific and limited Retailers, and thus limited in bargain hunting, or replacing/reparing an item by bargain hunting or foregoing any items/repairs altogether in favour of another strategy.

As a Client of Santam, you are forced by said Santam Card to overspend to replace or repair items, since Retailers usually charge way more for same product than smaller merchants, whom will not accept the Santam Card.

Santam also retains the right to "revoke your card and to suspend or terminate your use of the card for any reason whatsoever", which in all practicality and in Law is a breach of Contract and a devious way of denying a Claim, even after Settlement.

The CEO of Santam, which is a subsidiary of Sanlam, earns an annual remuneration package of about R43m. He sure deserves every cent, since Santam's use of the Santam Electron Card will ALWAYS let you, as a client or potential client of Santam, within the mercy of Santam's policies which is absolutely unfair to any Client /potential Client and not in accordance with the Short-term Insurance Act 53 of 1998, nor by the relevant amendments as provided by the Financial Sector Regulation Act 9 of 2017 and the Insurance Act 18 of 2017.

My Mother have such a problem now with Santam, and my Mother would need to approach the High Court with Jurisdiction for the necessary legal relief by way of Motion Application. Santam knows about my Mother's advanced Alzheimers Dementia, and abuses it to deny her claim with their well-designed, yet unfair, Santam Card tool.

My advise to any person would be that, in spite of Santam's great people, inter alia said Ms Holliday, and their good service, you will always be losing when Santam settles your claim by way of their Visa Electron Card. You will always be at their mercy, and they may use this tool (Santam Electron Card) to manipulate you, even after settlement. In all practicality, Santam may still deny your Claim even after they have settled, by abusing their use of their Santam Card.

Hence, my advise is to NOT DO ANY BUSINESS with Santam, and by extension Sanlam, unless you want to be disadvantaged financially and be controlled with unfair policies.

KINDLY share this information to all Consumer / Public & Area Groups in order to inform the Public of the dangers of doing business with Santam & Sanlam.
