POOR SERVICE: Santam Claims Card

I went to buy the items I lost during a break-in (after waiting for the card to be activated for more than a week) and when I arrived at the paypoint, the card was rejected! I have never been so embarrased ... "Security Violation" it said. The pin was correct ... so we tried again. Again, "Security Violation" ... the card was supposedly activated and I stood there, red in the face, feeling like a ******** while placing the items back on the shelves.

I called the number on the card whilst in the store and was told by the operator to go to another shop and buy something else as they are sure the current shop's system is not functioning properly. This even after I told them that the cashier informed me that someone else also purchased with a claims card that day and had no problem.

I went to another shop. Tried to purchase something else. Same problem. This time ... "Declined". Embarrased again ...

Contacted my broker and they have been doing their utmost to get feedback from Santam for weeks now. Finally going to issue new card today. Arrived at Santam offices in Bellville to collect card ... only to be told by Thorburn Security Officer that I did not reserve a parking and can not enter the premises. Really? How am I supposed to attend your offices? What about walk-in clients? Do they also get turned away.? Rediculous!

As if the break-in wasn't traumatic enough one has to deal with people who have NO IDEA what customer service is. Why can't Santam just pay the money into a bank account? Why pay another company to manage a claims card? Now the client has to deal with two entities and both do not provide a satisfactory service.

It is also a time-wasting exercise to move your business to another supplier. Customer service does not exist anymore.

I am extremely upset at the lack of compassion and service and no amount of apology can erase the poor service experience or give me back the time I have spent on this exercise.

Absolute torture.

Still waiting for someone to call me. And in the meantime I have to continue paying them monthly. When will they get their ducks in a row?

The yellow umbrella has holes ... huge holes!!!

Dear Mrs Human,

We are really sorry to hear about the bad experience and embarrassment you have suffered as a result of the claims card being declined. Also our sincere apologies for the incompassionate service by the security officer at our Head Office.

Could you please provide us with your claim number so that we can trace the claim and investigate what was wrong with the first card and ensure this does not happen again in future?

Thank you kindly.

Reviewer Update

Dear Mr Olivier

Thank you for your reply.

My broker subsequently went to collect the new card on my behalf. I was asked to buy something small to see whether the card is active. I was so happy that I could finally use the card and replace the items ******.

THEN DISAPPOINTMENT STRUCK AGAIN!

I went to buy the replacement items and again ... "Security Violation". The shop assistant / till operator told me that the Santam Claims card somethimes works and at other times on the same day it doesn't. Many people apparently suffer the same ordeal on a regular basis.

I then went to another vendor and bought a cup of coffee. Then the card worked again.

I don't have the time to run from shop to shop in the hope that the card may work. The money on the card is supposed to be used to purchase replacement items, not buy "small items" unrelated to the claim to see whether it works. This is a waste of my time and the claims money.

When I submitted quotes for the replacement items I was not told that I could only obtain quotes from certain shops/suppliers. I wasn't advised where the card would work and where not.

I really don't think anyone should be submitted to this torture. As if the trauma of the break-in and subsequent paranoia and lack of sleep isn't bad enough ...

The break-in occurred on Friday, 13 January 2017.

This has dragged on for too long ...

I do not want to contact the Ombudsman for Short Term Insurance and wait months more for this to be resolved, but it seems as if this may be the only option.

I have also sent my broker an e-mail to this effect and await their feedback whereafter I will make a final decision ... needless to say, I will have to wait until Monday 20 March 2017 for a reply as it is Friday evening and my broker's office is closed for the weekend.

Regards
Mrs Human

Dear Mrs Human,

Thank you for your response. I am really sorry to hear about this. This is very strange that the card sometime work and other times not. It is not supposed to work like that.

I would like to find out why this is and what could trigger this on the card. Could you please provide me your claim number so that i can trace the claim and investigate why this occurs?

Thank you very much, appreciate your assistance herein and once again my sincere apologies for this inconvenience.

Kind regards
