Poor handling of claim

In February 2016, a guy WITHOUT A LICENCE caused an accident and wrote my vehicle off. We had to pay in an amount (settlement), because we hadn’t even made our first installment for the car to the bank. Santam had to serve a summons the 3rd party to get the money back. From the start of the claim, I had to follow up what was going on. If I didn’t follow up, there was no communication given by Santam. Now after almost a year, after I followed up again, Santam does not want to continue with any further legal action, because the guy wants to defend his case. In my opinion, of course he would want to defend his case, as he was in the wrong, he caused the accident, it is a lot of money AND he didn’t have a license. And Santam chooses not to continue. We took a huge dip because of someone else’s fault and Santam increased our insurance with almost R 700.00, now he will not be held accountable for what he did and we will not get back our excess that we had to pay. Your slogan says – “96 years of insurance done good and proper”, in this case I feel it is very inaccurate. I also personally feel that your employee Deon Eksteen was very unprofessional in the initial handling of this claim.
