Phone claim accepted at lesser value using quotes from refurbished phones.

Terrible service from Tasleem

Santam settled my phone claim at the lesser value derived from Phonecity who clearly sells refurbished phones and refuses to engage.

The phone is no longer sold by istore. There is about 3 other middles after it that’s been phased out and instead of paying the phone at the next available model capped at insured amount, they insist on using a third seller of refurbished phones.

I don’t know if the reply was just for show because no one has contacted me about a clause being forced on me using an iPhone reseller of refurbished phones. iPhone 11 has been phased out for about 3/4 years now and Santam has to upgrade me to the next immediate upgrade capped at insured value but no l MUST ACCEPT quote from phonecity

Stephan Olivier from Santam responded to basically reiterate what Tasleem has said with an addition that l should refer the matter to ombudsman if l am not happy.

He went on to say that the phone they offer or use for quotes are new and nit refurbished. Added that istore still has iPhone 11.

I responded to indicate that l am not aware of an istore that has iphone11 128gb. This has not been responded to.

The fact that a phone from Phone city will require me to pay R250 each time there is a need for istore to look at the phone is being ignored.

The fact that l purchased all my phones from istore and should be restored to that position equally ignored

I need clarify that my insistence for upgrade is on the basis l believe istore no longer has the phone. I fully align myself with the clause in the policy “ The basis of indemnity for the loss of or damage to the insured property, or part of it, will be the current replacement value of similar new property, limited to the insured amount as shown in your policy summary“ but l argue within an istore and not Phone city.

Santam service has drastically declined l must say

Good afternoon,

Your response is noted thank you.
As communicated previously Santam has indemnified you for the loss/damage you had to the insured item on the policy.

It had been confirmed the phone in question is still available and thus we as insurer can place you back in the same position as you were before the loss.
This replacement is on a new device not any refurbished devices as you have indicated.

Our decision herein remain unchanged.
