PATHETIC SANTAM
My vehicle was hijacked on the 20th of April 2018. It was then discovered on 19th of May 2018 by the police as it was abondened in Forsburg Plaza with amunitions, AK47 Rifle etc. and it was possible linked to the recent Boksburg Heist. I then alerted the insurance and tracker as the police wanted the spare key of the vehicle.
I was then instructed by one of Santam Advisors (Ms. Anarstarcia Roebeek) to go to Chamdor SMD to confirm if indeed the vehicle was mine. I immediately liaised with my broker ( Jacques from Itavero) that the request was rather inhuman and insensitive as it is bringing back trauma to myself and my family but I was forced to go as they needed to finalize the claim. I indicated that I don’t want the car back as it involved in ******** activities and cannot feel safe in it. My privacy has been invaded, and even put my house on the market because I’m now scared on what will happen next. That car had my details in it (Municipality account together with the school letters for my son).
Another Santam Advisor, Mr.Jacques du Toit rep**** on a e-mail to my broker as follows; “Please note that we need to quantify the damages, if vehicle is repairable, as it appears to be, then we will proceed with repairs. We cannot offer the client the option of settlement on the vehicle if it can be repaired”.
I find that very offensive and doubt if the trauma that I’m going through with my family have been taken into consideration. That car is an evidence of a crime scene and it will always have bad memories for me and my family. I don’t care whether I get to loose on the value but the fact is that I don’t want the vehicle that has been associated with ******** activities. It is even worse that the very same car was part of the SA News Headline from the 19th -20th of May and you can also google it yourself (Red Audi S3 linked possibly to the Boksburg Heist which was taken in Brooklyn in Pretoria). Some story lines even goes further to say “ Muthi is suspected to play a key role in the recent heists” and I’m expected to drive the very same car?...Unless Mr. Jacques du Toit can guarantee myself and family that nothing will happen to my family or myself and that he will take full responsibility for anything then maybe we can try and engage but if he cannot guarantee me that, then I don’t want the vehicle at all. No amount of money can replace what I’m going through as of the day of the incident.
In view of the above, I was given a courtesy car which is due to go back to the car rental company tomorrow, 01 June 2018 at 12h12. That is evident that Santam doesn’t care about their clientele, they at just cash-***s like any other useless insurance...
#Santam must fall!!
Good morning,
We thank you for your post above. We do understand your predicament and do empathize with your situation. Kindly note from an insurance point of view you are insuring your vehicle against these types of losses and the principle of insurance is to indemnify you reasonably and fairly when you had been involved in any accident/incident covered under your vehicle policy.
We understand the vehicle had been recovered and unfortunately the process dictates that only you, as owner of such vehicle, can go and identify the vehicle as your own, therefore the request to you to identify the vehicle at Chamdor SMD.
Furthermore, the process dictates that we as insurer need to assess the damages to the vehicle to ascertain if its repairable or not. If it can be repaired we will authorise repairs to have the vehicle repaired to the state it was in prior to the loss. We cannot write it off and settle you in cash if the vehicle is repairable --- our commitment and liability lies in the assessment of said vehicle to determine if its repairable or not and then to have it repaired to the condition or as near as possible as to what it was prior to the loss.
Any consequential loss is excluded from the policy, which means that the fact that the vehicle had been used in a heist and you not wanting it back.
Once the vehicle is repaired you may then sell the vehicle should you not wish to keep it and be associated with the crime it was involved in.
Could you please provide us with the claim number in order for us to liaise with your broker and claims department?
We thank you in advance?
Kind regards
