No regard for women safety and Bully Tactics to avoid insurance claim
Santam Property Insurance: On 1 October 2021 water broke through and leaked through the ceiling in my downstairs kitchen area. I contacted my service provider insurer to report this damage loss. I was asked to source quotes to repair the water damage to the roof and home including inside kitchen and ceilings. I took the time and effort to search reliable contractors. An assessor contacted me on 27 October 2021 and then after came to the property. He walked through the property and verbally noted damage around the home. He said he would send an insurance approved contractor to assess and quote on the damage. A contractor was at my property 3 times between 28 Oct – 3 November. On 2 occasions – no measurements were taken and no one was on the roof. On the 3rd occasion, no accurate measurements were taken as well and men were briefly on the roof on one side. The kitchen cupboard was not even opened! Literally, not 1 of the cupboards were opened to review the extent of what needed to be replaced. Why would an insurance approved contractor need to visit a client’s property 3 times! The assessor then called me to say that R50 000 would be offered to me to use to fix the damage and that I can use the contractor to fix the damage. I was shocked and asked to see the report as to how possibly the damage could be fixed by that, given the extent of the home repairs that needed to be done on both the upstairs roof and downstairs lounge and kitchen unit. The assessor told me that they do not send reports. I said I wanted to see the quote from the contractor who claimed the job could be done with that amount. He then denied that he had sent a contractor. The report and proposed claim settlement was only sent on 10 November (after 28 Nov visit). The report indicates the bathroom upstairs, but the schematic only downstairs. This roof is Harvey Tile and the claim makes no sense. Thankfully my broker and service provide have been very helpful with the communication. Santam has provided very poor service and the proposed claim settlement makes absolutely no sense. The assessor report has discrepancy. Santam is requiring client to get repair work done, the assessor has been dishonest about not sending reports, the contractor came to the property 3 times without proper surveying, the delay between the assessor visit and the report, etc. This is all very alarming. In the meantime, the rain continues to pour down. 7 Dec Assessor calls Financial to “explain” the R50 000 settlement ‘offer’ to which he asks for meeting with his manager. This never happens. 8 -9 Dec I receive a call from complaint handler claiming they are waiting for something from our side. I explain they cannot possibly be waiting for anything. Instead they ask for quotes to be resent, to which I refuse, but eventually send and explain they are no longer valid from suppliers given the time lapse. Afternoon 9 Dec I receive email the exact same bullying response regarding the R50 000 that I must sign the agreement. ABSOLUTELY NO CHANGE to the first response on 10 November!!!!! No response to the reasoning of contractor on site 3 times – putting my safety at risk, no response to the absurdity and DISCREPANCY (inaccuracy) of the report – mixing middle floor and upstairs on schematic, no response to assesors conduct and dishonesty. I have never seen such utter disregard for a customer. Absolutely disgraceful.
