Incompetence of the highest order

Act 1 - The debacle begins

The debacle started 6 months ago when I took up household content insurance with Santam. I called the call centre and a friendly agent duly assisted me. She assured me that my cover would commence immediately and explained how the debit orders would work.

Fast forward 6 months and I recieve a policy document. Lo and behold there is no mention whatsoever of any contents insurance. I call the call centre and I duly informed that I do not have contents insurance AND I have not had insurance for the past 6 months.

Act 2 - Fool me twice

Despite this monumental error, I still decided to take out content insurance with Santam. This is when things took a turn for the worse. After having being promised that I would recieve a call from Santam to sort out this mess and waiting for an extended period of time to recieve this call, I become frustrated and eventually called Santam back. Call centre agent A, assists me to include household contents insurance to my policy (or so I thought). About two hours later I receive a call from Santam (finally). I inform call centre agent B that all is sorted. He decides to check if everything is in fact OK just in case. Everything was not OK. Call centre agent A did not add content insurance to my policy. Call centre agent A in fact created two policies covering the SAME assets. I am duly informed that it is not possible to cancel one policy. After much discussion, I am left with a semi-acceptable solution.

Act 3 - Fool me thrice

The day after, I awoke with a new pep in my step. I decided I would find a new insurance provider and leave the hell that is Santam insurance. I called around and found cover for HALF the price and TWICE the benefit. Joy! I called Santam with much joy to cancel my insurance with them. Problem. Call centre agent C cannot cancel my policy. Solution. She assured me she can cancel my agreement. I was skeptical.

Act 4 - Theivery & deception ensues

Its the first of the month. After having been informed that my policy had in fact been cancelled, I waited with baited breath to see if the debit order would come off my account. You can guess where this is going. R442 charged for my cancelled policy. I decide to work and live my life instead again contacting Santam. The next day another R2711 is debited off my account. To be clear that is R3153 for a service I cancelled.

Act 5 - Incompetence to the power of 5

I call the call centre. I am told to wait for superviser. Superviser never appears. I write on Hello Peter.

Act 6 - Heaven only knows...
