How Long Does it take to pay out a claim?

I was involved in an accident on Saturday 24/09/2016, Someone knocked my car, and I went to open up a case. Monday morning (26/09/2016) I called my broker (brolink) to put in a claim.

I was told to go to a certain panel shop to get a quote, which I immediately did. The panel shop emailed the quote to me and my broker later that afternoon. I called my broker to find out what happens next. From past experience I expected my car to be in the panel shop by Wednesday 28/09/2016 (was I wrong).

My broker told me that an assessor would contact me to see the vehicle. this only happened Wednesday afternoon at about 15:30.

I was met by Graham Abbotts who told me that he would submit his report on Thursday morning (29/09/2016), and my car should go into the panel shop for repairs on Monday 10/03/2016. however, he only submitted his report on Friday 30/09/2016. Graham also told me that if the value of the damage is 60% of the value of the vehicle, then Santam's policy states the vehicle would be written off.

I drive a 2012 Nissan Livina X-gear and with my last valuation on the vehicle I was told that the value is +- R113K

The quote that I received from the panel shop is R67140.00 now I know this is borderline (R67800 = 60%), however I asked Graham about the writing the vehicle off option. and he said that he would first look for 2nd hand parts to fix my vehicle.

Now my questions are:

Since when does Santam use 2nd hand parts to fix a vehicle that is not even 4 years old?

what guarantee do I have that the 2nd hand parts used are genuine parts, and surely this would further decrease the value of my car.

Secondly I was told that my vehicle should be in the panel shop by Monday 10/03/2016, I still haven’t heard anything from Graham about the repairs to my vehicle. My broker at Brolink is just as clueless about when my vehicle should go in for repairs.

This is seriously disappointing, and equally frustrating, I pay Santam for a service, but if this is the type of service Santam renders, i might as well go with their cheaper counterparts.

I am seriously considering changing my insurer.
