Horrible experience
On the 25 February 2022, Friday just after 16:00 I had an accident at work at the parking lot with one of Santam's client, the other party's car had a scratch on the bumper and my small cheap car had a dent on the boot and and scratch on the bumper, the other party went to the police station and she sent me an email on Friday night as the police station is on her way home and out my way and was not possible for me to go there same day or the Saturday. Monday I took time off at work and I went to the police station and I was told there is no need to make a statement as it was a minor accident, I gave my license number and I left and I updated the other party. Last week I received a call from Santam asking me if I had reported the accident to my insurance and I said yes, then the person asked for a claim number and I said I did not claim I only notified my insurance and I opted to fix my car myself as the excess that would be the same amount or more than what I will have to pay privately, then the person asked for my insurance number and that's when I asked from where is the person calling me from as I was under the impression it was the police station calling. The person told me that their client wants to claim for the damages from my insurance and I asked how did they determine that I was at fault since I was told at police station that there is no need for affidavit. I didn't get an answer to that question, now today 23 of March I'm receiving an sms from some debt collection company, stating that I have been handed over by Santam I must call to arrange payment or give them my insurance details. Is this how insurance claims work, ************ and unclear communications? I work in the same place with the person that was involved in an accident with me and I have said it on e-mail that if the person needs additional information from me then the person must let me know and I also told the person that I'm not comfortable speaking to Santam they must rather speak to me via their client or call my insurance as they have my Name, Surname, contact number, details of my car, my ID number and the name of my insurance, I'm sure I'm not sharing my ID number with anyone so the details is more than enough I believe.
Please Santam tell me how did you get to the conclusion that I was at fault and that you must hand me over for debt collection, did you even contact my insurance?
