I do not usually do this, however, I feel this incident should be aired.
My vehicle was rammed by a Santam client(to whom he subscribes), then dropped his business card with me, after reversing into my vehicle that evening.
He said he reversed so fast as to avoid an oncoming vehicle and prevent an accident, however, he did not see my vehicle parked across the street from my business premises. It was dark. He reversed too fast, thereby damaging the frontage of my vehicle reversing at speed.
The gent then refused to wait for the police to arrive on the scene, to open a case, however, I had to trot to the SAPS office to lay a charge. The Sanlam client had not been to SAPS for weeks - insofar as to say, the police called the gent to question him about the incident that night in question.
The vehicle was then towed to the panel beaters for the assessor to view and assess the vehicle. The bonnet, lights, grill - the entire front has been damaged.
In the meantime, affidavits were drawn from a slew of people that confirmed the vehicle had in fact no such damage prior to the accident.
When the Assessor came to assess my vehicle, the Santam client had the damage assessment reduced to minimal amounts and minimised the payout, as it would have affected his premiums, thus rendering us without a vehicle. The Santam client admitted that he did not see the vehicle as the accident occurred at night, but claimed the vehicle had such damage prior to the accident.
Santam therefore has reduced the claim amount of the damage claim by their client. Clearly, Santams' payout would also be less for them. We are taking legal steps to rectify this *****ulent action. This has affected our business dreadfully.
Best regards,
