Extremely bad experience and service
I am writing to you today to share my extremely disappointing and unprofessional experience I had with Santam regarding a recent flood claim of mine – submitted to Santam on the 15th of April 2022.
Some of my electronic items were damaged during the storm/floods in April, I logged my claim to Santam on the 15th of April, and I only got an assessor (Jordan Naidoo) out to my premises on the 28th of April. He came to my premises to do the assessment. After he assessed my damages he advised me that he had to take away some of the damaged items as he needed to do as assessment on these items. However, not all the items could fit into his car and he then decide to only take the smaller items .
Later on the assessor - Jordan - advised that he would send out a salvage company to collect the rest of the items. This only happened on the 12th of May 2 weeks after he initially came and did the assessment).
The assessor then advised he needed to come back to the my residence to re assess my home because he didn't do that the first time he came?? This caused me a great inconvenience having to leave work again to arrange to meet him
My damaged items that were taken away by the assessor were apparently tested by chaptronix natal cc, who stated that none of these damaged items were damaged due to water. The damage report did not include my Samsung remote which was collected by the salvage company. The report also stated that the items were tested without the power cables. How can this be the case?
On the 1st of June, some of my damaged items were then returned to my premises, BUT my treadmill and power cables were missing. When I questioned the company I was advised by Desi from chaptronix natal cc that the treadmill was never brought to him, but it was taken to the assessors home and was tested there. And he could not provide an address of the assessor for me. And he does not know where my treadmill and power cables are at the moment. This is extremely concerning and frustrating
I find this very strange for my items to be tested without power cables.
We do apologise for the delays experienced on your claim.
Due to the severity of damage sustained in KZN as a result of the floods, our assessors and service providers are inundated with claims and does not always have the capacity to attend immediately and thus delays will happen - they are doing their utmost to assist and accommodate our clients as quickly as best possible though.
Santam management has provided your broker with detailed feedback in regard to the assessment and inspection that was done by the appointed service provider.
The matter is currently with the Santam Claims Committee for review and their feedback and decision will be shared with your broker.
We were notified that the treadmill would have been delivered yesterday to you.
The appointed service provider conducting the inspection, did a detailed inspection on al the equipment delivered to them and app**** methods specifically to test for water damage to these units. Power cable were not necessary to have these test successfully conducted.
Once the claims committee has made their decision this will be shared with your broker and yourself.
Thank you and kind regards

My report stated my items are fully functional. But to me none of them are functional

Thank you for your response.
We have requested feedback from our claims division in respect of the treadmill.
In respect of the test conducted by Chaptronix on the items where no power cables were supp****, they confirm they have done passive tests for water ingress and could not find any water damage to these units.
As noted, the matter is with the Santam claims committee for review and they will relay their decision to you and your broker once done.
