Excess Sure - Really not to benefit the client - Make sure you damage your car untill it ads up to OVER R4000

Swart Karen - Policy number: ********** 6*003

I am sure everyone take out insurance for one reason. To be covered when you have and accident. So my insurance broker moved my policy a while back to Santam. Normal questions I've asked was: - Do I have the Excess waver option and car rental included, as this is normally the expess that no one budget for.

So my answer to both these questions - Yes

Your current Santam policy has Excess Sure with a limit of R35 000. The Excess Sure will cover the excess on the repairs for the two vehicles. You enjoy the 30 day option for Car Hire on the attached current policy standard for three vehicles.

So now comes claim time due to and accident and this is the responce I get:

Dear Karen,

The insurer (Santam) has informed us that the Assessor has obtained quotes for both vehicles for less than the quotes you submitted.

The full amount for the repairs on the Nissan Micra falls within the Basic Excess Sure amount of R4 000, therefore you will be liable for the quantum of R3 127.85 payable to the repairer.

The full amount for the repairs on the Ford KA exceeds the Basic Excess Sure amount of R4 000, therefore the full amount will be covered by your insurance. We attach your policy and wording for your convenience. We trust that you will find the above in order.

Kind regards,

Quote for my vehicle to be fixed given to me by Autobody - R4884-82, not sure what the amount is after their assessor looke at it. So Santam what you are saying is that I need to make sure I damage my vehicle enough so that it is over R4000 damage in order for you to pay from the Excess Sure? Really crazy. I will def. be moving my insurance.

So for the suckers out there (myself included) that think you are cleaver to take this option, you will still end up paying, unless you make sure you damage you car in such a way to have more than R4000 damage. So disappointed :-(

Any suggestions on which insurance to move to?

Good afternoon Karen,

Thank you for your review above.
We note the policy number quoted here -- this is not a direct Santam policy so could you please advise who the broker is you are insured through, it looks as if it can be either Brolink, PSG or Legacy Underwriting Managers.

We thank you in advance as we would like to investigate your concerns raised?

Good afternoon Stephan.

My broker at the moment: Fairhurst risk solutions (currently dealing with my claim Marlene Oberholzer ***.

I've specifically asked all the right questions when they've signed me up with Santam. I was previously with Brolink whereby I had the Excess waiver - I was assured that the Excess sure was the same as the Excess waiver option on my previous policy. No one mentioned that your car must be damaged for an amount over R4000-00 before you qualify for this. Then I would have never opted for this.

No one have R3000 + lying around to pay excess amounts when they had an accident.

Dear Karen,

Thank you for your response.
Are you still with Brolink as the policy number looks as if it could be them.

We just need ti be sure as to where to refer this matter too as we would not have any insight or access to this policy or documentation.

Thank you kindly.

Hi Stephan

The company that moved my policy to Santam is "Fairhurst" Licenced Insurance Brokers             ***

Please see below feedback from them:

Good morning Karen,

The policy you are referring to below was the Rodel policy which had the Excess Waiver.
Your current Santam policy has Excess Sure with a limit of R35 000.
The Excess Sure will cover the excess on the repairs for the two vehicles.
You enjoy the 30 day option for Car Hire on the attached current policy standard for three vehicles.

 With reference to the car hire;

We would happily assist you.  We kindly need the date you will need car hire and the address where you want to have the hire vehicles delivered?

Kind regards,

Santam
