DISAPPOINTMENT

We were the unfortunate victims of burglary/theft recently.******* managed to get over our perimeter wall and electric fence somehow , and stole my children's mountain bikes and a skateboard. Submitted a claim for these items at my insurance , SANTAM , whose motto is "we do insurance good and proper". Also reported the theft at SAPS. The value of the 2 mountain bikes and skateboard amounts to approximately R12000. A SANTAM representative contacted my wife , advising that they will be reimbursing an amount of R2500 only. The maximum claim limit for theft on policy is R200000 , however , this representative is now trying to not honour the claim by looking for alternative clause in the policy under which they can classify this claim for theft. This , is very disappointing , that this company wants to hide away from responsibility by trying to disguise theft under clauses with a claim limit of R2500 ( which I can not even buy one bicycle with ). You should think that a company such as SANTAM would not go as low , and honour the claim for theft , as theft as such. We will have to report this and also seek alternative insurance options , if this is how SANTAM operates.
