Claiming from Santam
I have been left extremely frustrated with the service I received from Santam. I lodged a claim on the 5th of November 2023, which got rejected on the 5th of Dececember. The rejection letter details that “ Mr Kimley Makamu was travelling at a maximum speed of between 102km/h and 110km/h within 5 seconds before the crash and this is between 70% and 84% faster than the speed limit of the road which is a 60km/h speed limit zone. Your vehicle entered a very sharp bend to the left at approximately 97km/ h this being too high of a speed to be able to properly navigate the bend. This caused your vehicle to move onto the oncoming traffic lane and collided with an oncoming vehicle. You were travelling at a much higher speed than the speed limit of the road which limited your control of the vehicle thus making the probability of an accident occurring much greater”. The speed quoted was not from the road where the accident took place. The car travelled between 102km/h and 110km/h on New road and Ben Schoeman highway at 08:59:34 which has a speed limit of 120km/h and not on the road where the accident occurred which is Alexandra Avenue/ First road. The above information is incorrect as per the attached tracking data requested by Santam from Netstar. When the vehicle entered Alexandra Avenue/ First road from Smuts drive at 09:03:29 it was travelling at a speed of 58km/h, which is below the speed limit of the road. Within seconds, the speed then changed to 68km/h when going through the slope. All along, the car was travelling within the speed limit. So far, the treatment I have received from Santam has been bad as I was hospitalised for around a month and upon being discharged, I was denied a courtesy car even before a rejection letter was sent. I have also requested the s**** to be towed to my preferred location on 18 December 2023 but up until now, it has not been towed and there's been no communication about the whereabouts of the s****. The request to tow my car to a different location came after being pressurized from 1 December 2023 to move it as, I would be charged for storage. I sent an appeal which was also rejected on the beginning of January with a promise to sort out the s**** issue immediately but till now there has been zero communication.
