Claim not resolved after 4 weeks - Claim no: ***

I am extremely dissapointed in the way our claim at Santam has been handled from day 1.

30 March 2017 we registered a claim for a ****** and recovered vehicle (incident occured 29/3/2017, vehicle was recovered the same day)

4 April 2017, Vehicle was collected from the pound by the Santam Recovery agent and towed to an Auction House in Roodepoort. We were advised an assessor has been appointed.

12 April 2017 - I received a call from the assessor not knowing where to find the vehicle to assess, the assessor was even under the impression the vehicle is standing at my work place. (which is absolutely ridicolous as the vehicle could not start due to the ignition being damaged)

18 April 2017 - Received feedback that the assessor can not find the vehicle therefore the assesment has not been completed as yet. After numerous calls and emails, I was advised that they are going to assess the vehicle the same day.

20 April 2017 - I emailed the registration papers of the vehicle to ARC Independent Assessors and also clearly stated in my email that the km is an estimate as we are not sure of what the exact km's is.

21 April 2017 - We requested to go to the vehicle ourselves to see if there might be any personal belongings still in the vehicle for instance paperwork etc. We had to get approval from the Assessors before the Auction House wanted to allow us to look at the vehicle. We were not allowed to take any photos of the vehicle, and at this stage the vehicle was standing on bricks as the Auction House removed a wheel from the vehicle. This all has been done while I have not received any clarity on what is happening with the claim and while the car is still on my name. I am still the registered owner of the vehicle. The only feedback I received was that the vehicle is not repairable, but nothing was ever received in writing.

26 April 2017 - ARC Independent Assesors advised me that everything is finalized and I will get an Agreement of Loss stating that there will be an amount deducted for 'n small dent on the one door and also a few chips on the vehicle. The amount she mentioned that will be paid out is R66 000-00 after the excess and the damage has been deducted.

I then emailed Santam quering this deduction as the vehicle has been standing at a pound for 4 days and thereafter the vehicle was at the Auction House for 2 weeks before it was even assessed. Therefore the damage could have occured during this time.

I have been following up on a daily basis, and still never received anything in writing.

2 May 2017 - The first communication I received in writing which was just an AOL, with now a deduction for high mileage and the Retail value being R5 000 less than what the Insured amount is, but no further explanation. The payout amount is now R64 000 even less than what was stated by the Assessor, and they have removed the amount for damage from the claim.

Now again I had to send a query as to why there is a deduction for high mileage when we clearly stated we do not have the exact mileage, and how is this established and also why the amount is more than R5 000 less than the Insured value of the vehicle.

This is now more than a month later and the claim is still not finalized, in the meantime I have been paying 2 Insurance premiums to Santam for this vehicle which is not even in my posession as clearly according the the Auction House not my vehicle anymore as they have started stripping the vehicle, even without us receiving anything in writing except for yesterday.
