On or about the 3rd of April 2017, My vehicle caught alight. The cause was an electrical fault that set the gearbox alight and caused catastrophic mechanical failure on multiple vehicle systems. Santam approved replacing the gearbox and after other repairs were done, they realised that the vehicle won’t start. They then approved a new engine and more repairs to the failed system. In July 2017, 3 months later, they released the vehicle to me apparently repaired. Only to have it returned to BMW with multiple engine failures and parts not supp****.
Once again the vehicle was returned to me, only to have more engine failures. In August it was returned back to them. It is currently still with them, going on 5 months. Sanlam approves repairs far beyond the economic cost of repairs, but to the questionable safety of me and my family. Not forgetting the financial losses caused by the fire damage, compounded by Sanlam. I currently pay ± R20 000 p/m instalment and ± R2000 p/m insurance for a vehicle i don’t have. I am left burdening others with transport requests. I was given an Insurance provided courtesy vehicle for 30 days but that was returned.
BMW gave me an unworthy road vehicle for 5 days to use that was a road hazard. Other than that, i have no transportation, although in 5 months, i would have paid a staggering ±R110 000 in instalments for a vehicle i don’t have. I have no dought, eventually BMW might get this vehicle right sometime in the future, after they have replaced practically everything. How long will i have to pay for a vehicle that i don’t have? When will enough be enough? My safety is in question as numerous times BMW has released a vehicle that had could never of past the QS Test, but released to me none the less.
In South Africa breakdowns are hazards and detrimental to one’s life. Is Santam waiting for me to demise before they choose to write this vehicle off and acknowledge that they have failed to repair it. I am in a worse of position that i previously was before the repairs. The more the Cost of the repairs to the vehicle, the less the value of the vehicle as due to CPA, i will have to disclose that it hypothetically the vehicle has a million rand fire damage. As all repairs are loaded on the BMW system. Sanlam chooses to save their own interests, at the detriment of the client
