Bad experience
On the 24th of November at approximately 18:00 my vehicle Toyota Hilux Dakar 2015 were involved in an accident on the N1 just outside of the Huguenot tunnel on its way to Worcester. The rescue van of the Huguenot tunnel made a u-turn without indicating and crashed into our vehicle. Our vehicle was written off by Santam on 15 December 2021.
Santam our insurance paid the book value of R250 000 to MFC and I had an shortfall of R158 000. As this was my first vehicle I was not advised about a shortfall policy. After discussing this with their legal department they told me they could include this in their claim as I was inconvenienced. That was December I followed up in Jan and the claim had to wait for the salvage of the wreck to determined how how much they can salvage for the R250 000 they paid to MFC.
Its February 23 and I have not heard back from Santam, i have to pay the monthly premium to R6530 to MFC and my credit profile took a knock. I cant buy another vehicle and had to utilize my credit card to pay for a 3 month car rental as that was not included my in policy.
Im disappointed and sad at the way I have been treated through this ordeal. I expected better from Santam!
