Are your Household items really insured?

Sometimes i really feel the consumer in South Africa do not have any rights and the governments act in favor of corporations, which is obviously to their benefit.

Whenever i buy a new vehicle the first insurance that comes to mind is Santam motor vehicle insurance. Now i rarely make use of these services but get them just for unforeseen circumstances. When you busy applying for car insurance the consultant will always explain that you should include household insurance to pay a lower premium.

To me including household insurance means that my household items are insured should they be damage or break due to reasons out of the ordinary. that how i was explained when i app**** for this service. O boy!! was i in for a surprise.

So i wanted to register my first claim, my dog chased the other dog into the house though the living room the table where my pc, laptop and tv stood on fell over damaging the hinges of the laptop and the pc did not want to start. luckelly the tv was not damaged,

I contacted Santam and registered the claim, only to hear that i did not take out accidental cover which is seperate part of household insurance. So i let it be.

A while ago my wife was busy doing the laundry when load shedding started, the washing machine was working just fine. as soon as the electricity was back we just saw sparks coming from the washing machine and then it did not want to work anymore.

I contacted Santam and registered the claim. After a week of registering the claim a service provider came to fetch the washing machine. A week later the service provider contacted me and said Santam told them to bring it back. I phoned Santam and they told me that according to the service provider the machine because it was to old. Can you believe it to what lenghts would some insurance companies go not to pay their client.

I really lost all respect for Sanlam as business and never thought they would stoop to that level. Again this is my experience and my reason why i would never do business with them again.

i only wish their consultants would be more honest in describing their services more in detail.

By the way i took the same cover from budget after leaving santam and they cover all the things Santam did not include under their umbrella
