Annual increase of over 15%
I am so disappointed with Santam. I received our annual increase letter of over 15%. Based on this, my husband contacted Santam in order to negotiate a reduction on this.( I mean I got a 5% salary increase, I can't afford to pay over 15% in an increase. That's R800 extra a month.) However, Santam would not even meet us even at 10%, citing the risk profile as an issue. I have been with Santam for about 6 years now and probably would've continued to do so until I reached old age. I was unfortunate enough to be hijacked two years ago(the car was retrieved last year and Santam auctioned it off, I even helped with getting the keys to you etc) and last year we were impacted by the flood in Edenvale (Please note I can't control a flood or a hijacking and don't enjoy been reminded about these events either and made to feel like they were avoidable-because they weren't). Notably, my new premiums are almost R6000 per month for 2 cars, my house, hh content, my ring and a small motor bike. My small Fiesta costs R2000 pm. That means if I kept the car for 5 years I'd pay half the value almost on insurance. Further to this, based on the current value for my vehicle, that means I am paying just over 1% of the vehicle's value to you in insurance. For me it doesn't seem normal. As mentioned, I am okay with a normal increase but this is crazy. I'd also like to know who thought increasing my monthly premium on the vehicles was a clever idea? Both vehicles had an increase of 400-R600 in premiums over the past 2 years. Then I got told my excess had dropped but you merely pushed up my premium. I will be switching out to another insurer as Santam clearly do not want to meet me half way with a "normal increase." I used to be such an advocate for Santam so I am extremely disappointed now.
