7 month nightmare

My car was caught in a hail storm in Feb. The car was assessed and I received written confirmation from Santam in Feb that the car was authorized for repairs in mid March. In April, after 3 weeks at the panel beaters, Santam called and informed me they had changed their minds and were going to write the car off despite the fact half the repairs had already been done. Santam refused to acknowledge their own written confirmation. I took the matter up with the Ombudsman, but after two months he classified this matter as \bad service"and outside his jurisdiction. With no further recourse"

Hello Klaus83,

Thank you for your posting and sharing your experience with us.

We can confirm that the Ombudsman reference V220/15L, as you mention in your posting, was your matter dealt with in their space. We can understand your frustration and apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you.

Initially the quote was done on the damage sustained due to the hail damage and repairs was authorised but as repiars progressed it was realised that more extensive damage was caused which resulted in the quotation escalating and exceeding the insured amount of the vehicle, which necessitated the decision to write the vehcile of as being uneconomical to repair.

Apologies for the delays in refund and settlement of your claim.

We thank you for informing us of your experience and will ensure that we address this internally to prevent it from happening again in future.

Thank you and kind regards

Stephan Olivier
