Unfair Insurance terms and conditions

I had a funeral cover with Assupol were i have covered my aunt, premiums were deducted from persal every month since 2014 then now is 2018 my aunt passed away, i claimed and i was told that the policy has lapsed cause i resigned which i never did to my knowledge and the only thing that they can do now is to pay me back the premiums from the time the policy lapsed until now. I was never told about a lapsing policy and premiums were deducted monthly meaning i was going to pay for 10years to be told the policy lapsed.
