Unfair funeral Claim payout for my baby's passing

I am deeply disappointed with the way Safrican handled the funeral claim for my infant daughter, who was born prematurely at 27 weeks and sadly passed away 17 hours later. According to hospital records, she was born alive, yet Safrican only paid out R5,000, which appears to be the amount for a stillbirth claim.

However, the Safrican policy (Clause 2.1.44) clearly defines a stillbirth as a child born dead after 28 weeks of pregnancy — this does not apply to our case.

According to the same policy (Clause 6.3 and Clause 9.4.1.1), children under 6 years are entitled to a R20,000 benefit. I submitted hospital proof of birth, a death certificate, and all required documentation, and I even appealed the decision in writing requesting posthumous registration under compassionate grounds — yet the payout was not corrected.

This has been a deeply painful time for my family, and Safrican’s refusal to honour the full benefit feels unjust and insensitive.

I am requesting that Safrican do the right thing and reassess the claim under the correct Child Cover benefit and pay the balance of R15,000 due to me.
