Unfair distribution of policy

I submitted the form to claim my late father's life cover together with my stepmother as i was born out of wedlock and i am the only child born out of wedlock it was 20 February 2015 and now sanlam is telling me that i am not going to get anything it is only my stepmother who will benefit from the policy while i dont reside with her and i am not working i am only studying and the person who supported me with study fees was my father.I dont understand why are they not deviding the amount fairly no matter how small it is.
