********* PRACTICE

Never in my entire life have I heard of a company that debits your account prior to the agreed and normal monthly debit order date. This being communicated to the policy holder by SMS with a supposed excuse of "ensuring that you are covered over the holiday period". A more valid reason would have been rather to say that due to all the public holidays "your premium will be collected earlier than normal" This is the 3rd consecutive year that this has been done. An SMS is received in the middle of the night informing you of an early premium debit. Last year I took it up with the company only to be told it is strictly applicable to funeral policies. Yeah right ... my premium is not in lieu of a funeral policy but life cover. Needles to say that after being assured that the debit order will not be collected at an earlier date than normal, it happened anyway. I am of the opinion that this is of a highly unprofessional nature. My basic viewpoint:- This company is afraid that during the festive season the debit orders will be returned as unpaid which will obviously put a strain on their revenue as well as increase any administration. I have never heard of any other companies or institutions that follow this practice. Can you imagine your vehicle finance institution, general insurance company and/or bond holder doing the same so that you may have their permission and/or assurance that when you drive your vehicle or occupy you home during the festive season you will be covered. TOTALLY ABSURD AND ********* !!!!!

Dear Claudette,
Thank you for informing us about your concerns.
We do apologise for the inconvenience caused by the earlier premium deduction and understand how distressing this may be.
The multiple number of public holidays during this Festive Season is indeed a contributing factor to Assupol's decision to action debit orders on a date earlier than the normal deduction date, should there be funds available in the debited account. The main objective of this process still remains to ensure continued cover over this period.
I will ensure that the department responsible for the communication of such earlier deductions be informed of your concerns to adjust their message.
Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.
Proudly Serving,
Assupol Complaints Manager

Best regards,
