Steer Clear of Sanlam for your Life!!!

Steer Clear of Sanlam for your Life!!!

I need to Lodge a Formal Complaint into how I’ve been treated by Sanlam Life Insurance. After contracting COVID-19 in mid-2020, I subsequently suffered impairment and damage to my lungs which has meant that I’ve not been able to return to work since. The situation has caused massive suffering for myself and my family. My day-to-day functionality has been affected, affecting my ability to work, look after my children and family and carry out day-to-day activities. Simple activities like looking after children leaves me absolutely exhausted. The strain and stress which it has put us through have been intense.

The financial burden of dealing with this situation has been very difficult to deal with. Endless Medical Bills, assessment costs, lifestyle changes and a total change of lifestyle. This is not something that you want to deal with when you are sick and battling physically, to have the added stress of financial pressure!!!

I took out a policy with Sanlam in September 2018, with so-called Life Cover, Disability and Dreaded Disease benefits. I was told that I was covered for my “regular occupation” and if I couldn’t do it, I would have a claim. This has turned out to be nothing but hot air.

The treating Specialist has written to Sanlam on numerous occasions, informing them that I am disabled. This is exactly what he’s said:

“He is 100% disabled for his current occupation because his work involves walking 8-10 km daily, carrying heavy goods, and supervising a 45 000 square meter area warehouse. As far as I can ascertain his company is unable to accommodate him in a lighter position that will not entail physical effort.”

“he has persistent long COVID-19 and is unable to cope with the physical demands of his current job. I have to state that he is 100% disabled for his current job description. Long COVID-19 is an undisputed new clinical entity and must be taken into account when assessing his disability claims. It is quite frustrating to note your lack of insight into his medical status due to long COVID-19, and consequent resistance to assess his claim in this context.”

How disgusting that the medical fraternity is getting frustrated with Sanlam’s lack of insight into COVID-related sickness and disability!!!

Despite the fact that I’ve been recommended to have a lung transplant, am registered as an organ recipient, that I haven’t been able to work in over 2 years, and my Dr has stated that I am 100% disabled for the job that I was doing – Sanlam have continued to deny the claims,

To make it worse: I had a small policy with ABSA which covered me for “Own and Similar Occupational Disability”, this has been settled and paid out in September 2021! Momentum have already paid me out for Dreaded Disease payments due to the damage in my lungs well over a year ago and have also paid my Income Protection since I’ve been off of work

Contract that with what Sanlam is currently doing in continuing to deny the claims and make me go to more Drs – at my own expense! Can you believe it? They won’t pay my claim but want me to go to more Dr’s to get more reports at my own expense!

In the time of COVID-19, when society has been at its most vulnerable in terms of health, Sanlam have been disgusting. They have denied and continue to deny valid claims caused by COVID-19. It is shameful and disgusting.

Steer clear of them!!! When I needed them the most they have just denied and delayed and not met the claims. Look at the difference from ABSA and Momentum – on the same set of medicals!!!

Even my Dr is frustrated and upset with them.

I’ve gone through all the hoops and requirements which they put me through and they just keep denying, delaying and deferring the claims.

Steer clear of this crowd as if your life depended on it – because it just might!!!
