Spouse's Insurance not paid out
I invested in spouse's insurance via my employer in 1996. Whilst contributing I from time to time enquired about the product but never received a policy document. My husband passed on 14 July 2018. Upon submission of the claim I was informed that he is no longer covered because he was over the age of 70! Sanlam offered to pay out the premiums I paid after he turned 70 up to date of death. This is a mere 5% of the initial value! I referred the matter to the Financial Services Ombudsman and received a ruling in favour of Sanlam. Only in June 2019 I received a policy document mentioning the age issue. I am severely upset, stressed and frustrated since the ruling negatively impacts on my financial situation and planning for retirement. I like to caution others policyholders of Sanlam. You might be relying on money forthcoming just to be left in the lurch. Elize Botha
