Sanlam's Custoner Service a NIGHTMARE

Tremendous frustration as my husband and I are updating our portfolio! Because our circumstances have changed, we have been trying for the past three weeks to reduce our life cover and cancel my husband’s income protection. My first option was to attempt this through the website, which advises you to contact your broker. As I have never worked through a broker, I phoned Sanlam Direct, to effect the changes. Unfortunately Sanlam has an initiative to assign brokers where they see fit to the effect that this person will be receiving whatever commissions and retainers are payable. This, off course, to keep their sales force happy under the guise of protecting their uninformed/*********** clients from themselves. So I was advised to contact this broker whom I have never heard of before and given his contact details. The broker told me to come and see him, however, since his offices are in Benoni I declined as a 50min drive to reduce cover on two policies was not an option. He told me that these type of transactions did not hold any benefit for him, so I would be better of finding another broker to help me. I phoned the closest Samlam agent, but it turned out he only works half day and since then I have been faced with endless frustration to appoint him as the new broker, then request quotes, then two phone calls to discuss our reasoning behind the changes and why a new policy (which would have the effect of commission for the broker) is not appropriate. I started this lengthy process 3 weeks ago so that the amended premiums could be in effect before February. I contacted Sanlam Direct AGAIN, this time demanding that they assist me. I am now waiting for Sanlam Direct to contact me to advise if they will be able to help. In 2017 I had to revert to Hello Peter to cancel an Income Protector, which, under your terms and conditions would not pay, and here we are again. It’s FAR EASIER to cancel the debit orders on both policies and take out insurance with another company that to adjust our existing Sanlam policies. Sanlam’s eagerness to protect their sales force has created a SERVICE NIGHTMARE. Think TWICE before signing up with Sanlam.
