SANLAM terminates policies WITHOUT NOTIFICATION

My husband and I both in our 60's had taken an Accidental benefit policy from 2009. Debit orders were in place too. One policy was updated but have no written proof and the broker will be of no help because of a fallout with another insurance problem. I made the mistake of not keeping the proof of renewal safe. We had moved house too around that time. SANLAM wants proof and I have none. Can you imagine our dismay to be so callously terminated. It was by pure coincidence we discovered the missing debit orders on our bank statements. Both our policies terminated with no notification from Sanlam. It is truly disappointing that Sanlam has just terminated our policies without notifying us. One policy is claim free. So Sanlam benefits. These policies have the option of renewal. Is this fair practice? Small premiums but of great importance and had kept our debit orders always in order. No unpaid premiums ever on this policy. This is the time we would most probably need this most. Sanlam had worked on my husband's policy in the last year and called personally to rate their service but omitted to inform the policy had terminated.

Still in progress . Unresolved.

The first resolution of completely disregarding the policy and starting a new policy was declined.

The consultant was further directed to the policy document page3 about the renewal conditions. What happens at the end of the guarantee period. Awaiting Sanlam's response.

My husband's policy : he will be consulted.

Sanlam believes it acted correctly in terminating my policy on the end date. The arbitrator at Sanlam has ruled in favor of Sanlam - Email received Sunday 29th Sept 2024.The arbitrator has also stated what happens at the end of a guarantee period (page3 of the policy-4 paragraphs) is not related to the policy and if I want further explanation I can contact the arbitrator or the insurer. I am now awaiting a reply from the arbitrator. SANLAM takes too long to reply.

One clause on page 3 reads....when a guarantee period ends a new guarantee period of 5 years will start....

I raised this complaint on hellopeter and will see it to the finish. If there are lessons to be learnt by myself and others so be it. One of it is keep a tab on your debit orders.

My husband's policy ended this year. Not sure if Sanlam sent communication to a non existent postal address.

Still awaiting the arbitrator's response as to why Page 3 of the policy is not related to the policy. SANLAM you can respond because the arbitrator for some reason has not responded to date.

I feel disappointed. I paid for a policy with a cover end date including extension of guarantee period every 5 years but not for the cover end date according to Sanlam. If I had known this I definitely would have ended this policy even before it started. You don't pay for so many years for the company to benefit. I had not even made a single claim. I should have invested the premiums instead. Stupidity Ignorance ? Can't understand also how a policy of this nature exists.
