Sanlam is ****** and discriminates against black female doctors and clients with disabilities.
Income Protector claim - num=C***
Sanlam is not only a ****, but very condescending and undermine black female medical proffessionals and clients. In essence they are discriminating against people that are non-White with mental health disabilities.
They will do anything to avoid a client's claim even though they have enough evidence and proof that the claim is valid because the voice of black doctors who are also female is ignored.
A claim stage underwriting will be processed to deem things as non-disclosures.
The client has a claim that was lodged in November 2021 and Sanlam has dragged its feet to get to the conclusion of it; they picking at straws as the reason to not pay the claim.
1. Sanlam claimed that all mental health ailments are one, thus major depression, stress, adhd, PTSD, general anxiety disorder, dysphoria, bipolar mood disorder, multiple personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, narcissist behaviour and manic disorder are one ailment and that if you have one it will progress to the others. Claiming that the treatment modalities are the same. 2. Sanlam claims that they do not work with ICD-10 codes or DSM-VI/V codes. Yet their claim form is on page 13 requires this information. 3. Sanlam claims that the client had an existing executive dysfunction that was missed by a treating medical specialist for 9 years, thus ruling out adult ADHD. Even after the client proved that their executive function was never affected prior to joining the group scheme. (Worked in a high pressure environment, while studying part-time and maged to excel in their profession and receiving a lot of awards; the insured also acquired their post graduate qualification with a distinction). 4. The Sanlam in-house psychiatrist, Swingler made a diagnosis without seeing the patient, claiming that the insured has no signs of PTSD and ADHD. How do you assess this without communicating with the patient? Was this a ploy to nullify the observations made by the black female treating doctors at Akeso and Jakaranda. 5. Sanlam has failed to give indication that they know how to read a medical and/or a progress report from a psychologist and psychiatrist. On the report ADHD, PTSD, GAD, BMD, are noted on axis 1, which refers to primary medical ailment and the claim is based on. This refers back to point 1 where Sanlam picked and chose the ailments that suit them for nonpayment of claim. 6. Sanlam claims that there is not enough evidence that the insured has ADHD from the treating staff, however no form or call was given to the Psychiatrist for further information. 7. Sanlam has failed to reimburse the client for the hailing service that was used to see a previous treating psychiatrist, where it was mentioned that it was at Sanlam's cost. 8. Sanlam has on numerous times not included the client and their financial planner on communique received even though the request was made on multiple occasion. This has resulted in the ******** practice of sharing personal and medical details of the insured with a third party without the client's consent. In short POPI Act was bridged.
The client has not received communication re: the following email sent: Hi
Please note the following: - you have not included the insured life in this email and their financial adviser (T Mahlangu). And you have assumed that Cleo Q Zwane is the same as the insured.
Insured life = GN SHABANGU (***) Ex-partner to insured life = CLEO Q ZWANE (***) Thus the aka's noted on the documents are not valid, and deems then null and void.
Sending sensitive and medical information of the insured life to a third party is ******** and infringes the POPI Act and the individual's right to privacy. Do note that none of the documents are password protected.
You still have not given clarity on the following : - Reimbur*****t of the client's funds used for a hailing service to see a doctor at a request from Sanlam.
- What information was needed from the treating medical professionals (Dr Ramosolo and Kgabo) to show or indicate the presence of adult ADHD, executive dysfunction, PTSD, crippling depression and anxiety? As Axis 1 in a medical report noted by black female professionals is invalid. Adult ADHD exists and this can be seen on the history of the client's performance through out their life. Their executive function was not affected even though the multiple hospitalisation due to stress caused by experiencing multiple concurrent loses in the family.
The claim that ADHD and PTSD were underlying and were not picked up by my doctors, means that Dr Lawrence who treated the patient for 8 years was not able to assess that?? Are you saying he was not doing a thorough job?
- You cannot diagnose a patient without assessment upon meeting the client, thus the report from the independent doctor from Sanlam is not something to go by, it is just an idea by a white male doctor that Sanlam is holding on it.
- Dr Mathey only saw the client for an hour, and no deep dive investigation of other ailments was done. As we have been saying, the ADHD diagnosis test and/or assessment takes about 3-4 hours or on multiple days. Thus only a functionalality and current awareness assessment was done.
- Which medical book or journal that states that stress, bereavement, and depression progresses to ADHD or PTSD.? Have you asked the doctor when the event that caused the PTSD happen? Also what triggered the executive dysfunctionality.
