Sanlam GAP Cover - Worst Claims Experience - Stay Away from them

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the service provided by Sanlam GAP Cover. My father was admitted to the hospital in April for an emergency due to severe stomach pains. We had no choice but to rush him to the nearest hospital, where he stayed for seven days and thankfully recovered. During this time, I made the necessary co-payments as required by the hospital.

Since the end of May/beginning of June, I have submitted all the necessary documentation via my broker. However, I have not received any communication from Sanlam. It has been nearly impossible to get hold of anyone on the phone, and even when I did, the call was cut off, and no one bothered to call back. Between my broker and myself, we spent a total of 25 minutes on calls each without any success.

Today, after much effort, I finally managed to speak with someone who informed me that my claim was rejected because it was 'out of network.' This is incomprehensible to me, as my father was admitted to a hospital in an emergency situation. Sanlam's expectation that I should shop around for a network hospital while my father was in severe pain is utterly unreasonable and inhumane. I have been paying over R1000 per month for the last four years, believing I had some level of security with GAP cover.

Now, I am being told that I need to obtain a letter stating it was an emergency. This entire experience has shattered my trust in Sanlam. I had no choice but to pay R10,000 when my father was admitted, believing that GAP cover would provide some relief. Instead, I have been met with indifference and a complete lack of support. I was literally shaking with shock and disbelief at the feedback I received today.

Sanlam GAP Cover takes your money but fails to pay your claims when you need them the most. This has been a hard lesson for me, and I highly recommend that no one uses their services for themselves or their loved ones. They will undoubtedly disappoint you.
