SAFRICAN COMPLETLEY INEFFECIENT
At the inception of the policy , I was married to the deceased and I have two children out of this marriage. We later divorced.
He however remained covered under this policy and I paid the necessary premiums over the years. He passed away on 20 March 2023. I submitted a claim more than a month ago and yesterday I received a repudiation letter stating that the claim was rejected because the deceased and I are now divorced. Here are some of the complaints I have: I was told that I may not receive the claim because the deceased is an ex-spouse, when I enquired further, I was told that this is a clause in the policy (I have requested written proof which was signed by me agreeing to such a clause, and I have not been furnished with same. Kindly furnish me with this clause, where I agreed and signed this claim. This claim was lodged on 22 March 2023, and there was little to no progress until I physically went to your offices. The 48 hour promise is clearly just a lie because unless I follow up on a daily basis, I get little to no feedback at all. I have called and emailed numerous times. There seems to be a ploy to not pay this claim out as the deceased and I were divorced, however I was never made aware that in the event that the deceased and I are divorced the policy would not pay out for whatever reason. Furthermore, failure to have this matter expedited timeously will result in me having no choice but to approach the Ombudsman and/or possibly take the legal route to remedy this situation.
I look forward to hearing from you.

NR Chauke
