Nightmare claim process, zero feedback and *********** staff
Around January I was told one of the claims is done and they are waiting for the funds to be transferred back from the holding account for dormant claims to the policy so they can make the claim payment. A month ago I was told all documents have been received and the 2 claims are in process, so they will send a request to the agent to update me. Today when I went back to their offices again due to no feedback being received, I was told that there is a note on the system from mid-April that the SARS request for a clearance was declined and the Executor (me) should go to SARS to resolve the issue. 1) This issue was raised in November 2023 already and I had to explain to them that the request rejected due to them putting the policy number in the Id number field and using the wrong initials on the request to SARS. Thereafter, I sent Sanlam the SARS clearances and I was told during one of my visits that they have been received and all is in order. 2) Why did no-one contact me since mid-April if I am supposed to get this resolved with SARS? After mentioning points 1 & 2 today, I was told that they would need updated clearances as the previous ones are too old now. WHAT COULD HAVE CHANGED WITH SARS BETWEEN LAST YEAR AND NOW IF THEY ARE DECEASED AND NOT EARNING AN INCOME AND WHY WAS I NOT INFORMED? These claims have been a constant merry-go-round of sending and resending documents and follow-ups, then being told some of the documents have not been received or getting one-liner replies that there are no policies found for this person. (But other documents on the same emails have been received - how is that possible?) I have to keep going into the branch and this means time taken off work. I've been busy with these claims for over a year now, it's ridiculous!! I'll be sure to tell everyone I can that they should not invest or take policies with Sanlam because their loved ones will go through absolute hell to try and claim in the event of their deaths. Ps. I have spoken to a woman named Faikah Khan twice who was very helpful and has tried to assist me so a big thank you to her, I will be loading a compliment for her on HP. Unfortunately, at the end she had to refer the queries back to the claims team / agent and then everything stopped again.
