need the plan to be paid up
I have a retirement anuwity with salam i told them i need my money to be paid up now they are refusing saying that they can only give me the money at the age of 55 what do they mean i dont want their plan anymore and i want my money to be paid up as soon as possible
We acknowledge your posting. Sanlam are correct in stating that you may not access your fund before age 55. The reason for this is not Sanlam that do not want to pay, but legislation which stipulate that would the value of your retirement annuities in a fund exceed the amount of R7000, you are not allowed to terminate. The value of your previous retirement annuity paid in 2015, together with your current one, exceeds R7000, and therefore you may not terminate.
Unfortunately you will only be able to access your funds once you turn 55.

Your perception about Sanlam is unfortunate. You can engage with your intermediary as you can also transfer the retirement annuity to another insurer of your choice. However, note that the same legislation will then apply.
We are closing the matter now.
