********** Beneficiary, Its a **** pensioners BEWARE!!!

We contacted assupol on Saturday the 18th of January following the passing on my grandfather to confirm the status of the policy, after confirming the status of the policy we noted that my late grandmother was the beneficiary and so due to her also being late, the consultant advised us to obtain a letter of authority. We went to the local high court and got given a letter to give to assupol in order to get details of the estate/policy. When we presented the document it was then established that the policy was put under the name of a person who no one in my whole family had heard of, we told the people at assupol about this but they said to us a beneficiary is a beneficiary and that in the event that the person noted as a beneficiary is not found they will not be able to assist us, that we should already start making alternative arrangements as this matter will take long. Upon our family doing our own investigation we managed to find the beneficiary who was in the policy and went to track them in the address we found, the man was shocked and told us he has never head of this person (our late grandfather) who we were asking him about. It has really been a trying and stressful time with trying to get the funeral arrangements finalized and to get treated like that at a place were we thought we would get help and solace has really been disheartening. My worry is also about how many South Africa families have suffered discourse at the helm of these so called relief and support providers who when it is time to claim they put the needs of the family in the back-footing.
