Forced Risk Policy
I have an Endowment Policy with Sanlam which I took out when I started working in 1995. It was going to mature when I am 55 years old. In 2017 Sanlam sent a consultant to me with a new product they have according to the consultant. My Endowment policy included a risk part in it, now they were separating the two. The Endowment policy was going to be paid separately and the risk policy paid separately. I also have a retirement annuity with them so I had two policies with Sanlam now I was going to have three with the Risk Policy that they are introducing. This I understood very late because the consultant told me that there was not going to be changes in my premiums. I then discovered that I was actually going to be paying for three policies now and my premiums were going to change this was explained by someone else after I and the previous consultant were not agreeing to anything and he could not even answer my questions. This other guy was telling about the money I was going to loose out from my Endowment policy that covered for the risk portion if I do not take this new Risk Policy product. This was in 2017 and policy was going to mature in 2020. I then decided under duress that ok, I will take it although I was not happy. I signed the documents for the now three policies. I was already in arrears now and I was also getting threatening of my letters policies lapsing. When I signed the agreement the never brought me a stop order form like they normally and I was sitting thinking that my premiums are continuing as normal as they have said only to find out after three months that my policies are not being paid for. I made an arrangement to for them and managed to do so. 4 months later I am told that my Risk policy was in arrears of more that R3000 if not mistaken. I was paying for the Risk policy as I have arranged with them they kept on returning my payment back to my Bank account until I gave up on that Risk Policy and I cancelled the stop order. My policies maturity date were extended with a couple more years because of this new Risk Policy they force on us. We were never consulted about this Risk Policy it was imposed on every endowment policy holder.
