Do not cover your families with Sanlam or Assupol if you are not blood related!

The worst experience I’ve encountered. If you’re an African individual and have covered non blood related dependents who you have insurance interest in do not cover them with Assupol Life / Sanlam. I covered a dependent who was taken in by my family and lived with us for the longest of times with assupol who had now been taken over by Sanlam and since this acquisition claims have been declined. As an employee of Sanlam/Assupol I decided to rather change the relationship from Cousin to friend as I am seeing how claims are handled when a dependent isn’t blood related. I called ahead Office and made the changes with them instead of doing it myself on the system so I can get the go ahead from senior clerks which I did and the lady who assisted me confirmed that it was in order. Now Afew days after I made these changes my dear sister committed suicide. I provided all the documents as well as my sisters mothers and aunts numbers so they can confirm that we were indeed close and I had insurable interest infact her family including the dependent asked that we cover them as they are all financially disadvantaged and we did as they asked. My cousins claims with Capitec were all paid because Capitec saw the insurable interest but not my employer. I have lodged a formal complaint about this and it’s been two to three weeks with no feedback. The service is pathetic even if I have to say so myself. I have since the complaint asked for my recording where I made the changes from the claims manager and to Jermaine has been awol with my recording instead they have sent me a transcript. ***! I know assupol in and out and I do not wish to be tested. Why is the friend option on the system if it’s not valid! When I asked this I was told as an employee I should’ve known better yet the same complaints person calling me to hear my side of the story confirmed that I should’ve rather advised that the dependent was my second cousin and not friend. So you tell me what games they’re playing! If the friend option was invalid why did Head office approve ??
