Disgraceful SANLAM
So disgraceful and leaving such a bad taste... I just had to cancel a debit order for an elderly lady, 86 years old for a funeral policy taken out in 2003. For all these payments over 20 years which went up annually, her return will be a mere R5000 for her funeral. That is not even a 5% of what funeral costs are now a days. What a disgrace! Could no one at Sanlam inform her to change to better policy which will be enough for a funeral one day? There is basic 4 pages of correspondence on this matter from signing on. Does the word INTEGRITY means NOTHING to SANLAM? This is why there is absolutely no trust in the services. Look at their ratings and I bet they are not even ashamed of it. A rating of 1 is already too much. Their call centre can also close. No assistance there either. A 87 old woman must submit a letter for cancellation of the policy. NO SANLAM, enough is enough. Cancel it yourself. How many elderly people are there who are in the same situation? Life expectancy has increased and therefore they only fill the pockets of these companies who can't care less? We need to establish a consumer/customer unity and take these matters on. Shame on SANLAM!!
We are sorry to hear of your poor client service experience. We have escalated your complaint to Sanlam SKY.

Yes, we can cancel the policy, but what happens to all the contributions over years? Is Sanlam only pocketing that money without remorse? We all know life expectance is at lease 10 plus years longer and funeral costs are 5 times higher than 30 years ago. Doesn't the elderly deserved a decent funeral? SANLAM does get compound interest on these contributions but they can't contribute towards a decent funeral? This is all about principles.
The question remains, what can or is SANLAM doing to ensure a better funeral for elderly for their contributions over years which now due to longer life expectancy causes them to contribute plus minus 5 times more, but the cover amount stays the same. There must surely be a more humane solution to this matter.
