COMPLAINING
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my disappointment and concern regarding my Assupol Funeral Policy, which I joined in 2010. At the time, my policy included coverage for a coffin valued between R10,000 to R15,000 and a ***, representing a substantial benefit. Over the past 15 years, I have diligently paid my premiums without making any claims until my mother passed away on 4 September 2025. These premiums matured annually, with the premium amount increasing each year.
On 5 September 2025, I visited the Assupol branch located at Corner Du Toit and Madiba in Pretoria Central to submit a claim. To my surprise, the consultant informed me that they couldn't locate any information about my policy, citing a system upgrade as the reason. After contacting their Head Office, I was informed that they could only offer me R4,000, which was processed and paid out on the same day.
I am left questioning the value and integrity of the policy I maintained for 15 years. The R4,000 payout is starkly inadequate compared to the original benefits I was promised. Given the inflation and increased costs since 2010, securing a coffin and a *** with R4,000 seems highly impractical, as the combined value of these items would likely far exceed this amount based on 2010 prices, let alone current costs. It appears Assupol has been collecting premiums from me over 15 years, only to provide what they appear to consider a goodwill payment of R4,000 following my mother's passing.
