Be Aware
I have an income protector policy with Sanlam. It is paid by debit order monthly. In March and May 2023, I had claims for cataract surgery. The policy rules state that premiums are waived for the duration of a claim this case it is 14 days in March and 14 days in May. Sanlam however stopped deducting for this policy on the 1st of June 2023, I assumed it was for the combined 28 days of the two claim periods. On the 1st of July Sanlam deducted a double premium without informing me and this was not honoured by my bank. Sanlam the sent me a notification that this policy was no longer in force, on querying this I was informed that this is was a mistake on their side, after consulting with the Call Centre Sanlam refunded the bank charges for the unpaid debit order. The Client Contact Centre confirmed that the debit order was reinstated and requested me to pay 2 premiums, which I did. I called every week for 8 weeks regarding the status of my policy and was assured on all occasions that it was reinstated, IT just had to amend the status on the system, today I receive a letter stating that the policy provides no benefits unless I submit a letter that my health condition hasn’t changed since 1 June 2023, I had an arterial bypass in June 2023.
